Hello World!

Welcome to my blog, Adventures in Physics!

I've just finished my 10th year as a teacher in Manitoba and thought it was time to start sharing my ideas and experiences.  In my first two years of teaching, I had an amazing time teaching Pre-Calculus and Physics, but had to move on and spent the next 7 years teaching only math.  It was difficult not being able to teach the courses that I was most passionate about for so long, but this past year I finally had the opportunity to get back to what I enjoy most!

It's been an amazing first year back to teaching Physics!  I was fortunate to have so many wonderful students this year that made it easy to get back into.  I did my very best to create a program that would engage them and get them as excited about physics as I am with a number of demonstrations and some interesting labs.  My students loved my Reuben's tube demonstration, had fun with a cloud chamber and some radioactive samples, looked at interference and diffraction using lasers, and so much more!  This coming year I have built a few new demonstrations and am working to plan out some more labs and I hope to share my progress and experiences on this blog so that my students can see what this all looks like behind the scenes and so that other Physics teachers might comment and share their ideas.

I am also hoping to share my upcoming trip next week as I have been selected to participate in the International High School Teacher Programme 2019 at CERN next week!  Remember those wonderful students I had just mentioned?  A few of them helped me make an application video this year and I applied through http://teachers.cern/itp/international-teacher-programmes to be part of this incredible experience.  A few months later, I received my acceptance and will be joining 47 other high school teachers from 35 countries around the world next week in Geneva.  I am fortunate enough to also be just the 15th Canadian to have the opportunity to go in the program's 21-year history.  I am incredibly excited for this adventure and it is, in part, my motivation for starting this blog.  While at CERN from July 7-20 I hope to document what I do and learn there so that other high school teachers can see what an incredible opportunity it is!

Hope you enjoy this adventure with me!
Chris
