CERN HST2019 - Day 12
Today ends the International High School Teacher Programme 2019! 😢 It's bittersweet in that I've had such an amazing time and learned so much here, but I'm so excited to see my wife and son after two weeks without them. This morning we did our focus group presentations with our group up first to present on particle accelerators! It went really well and you should be able to take a look at a record of our presentation, as well as everyone else's, on the official programme website once they get uploaded in the next few days. All of the presentations were really and there were some awesome activities developed that we can use in the classroom.
In the afternoon we started off with a final session from Anja on concept maps and then a closing speech from Jeff. After seeing how concept maps can be integrated into our classrooms, I've had some ideas and I like the fact that it can be both an excellent tool for students to take notes as well as a good way of seeing what students actually know and understand about a concept. I'm thinking more and more about how I'm going to utilize them in my classroom this fall. Then we had our "graduation" where Jeff and Anja gave us our certificates and goodie bags!
Finally, we had an incredible farewell supper in the French Alps and were fortunate enough to have a number of presenters from the last two weeks join us. It was a wonderful way to wrap things up! This was an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience and I feel very fortunate to have been a part of the last two weeks. I can't believe it's over and that my adventures at CERN have come to an end, but I'm also happy to go and be with my family again. I have to say that I owe a huge thank you to Jeff and Anja for the incredible programme they run, all of the incredible presenters, and the amazing people who participated in this programme with me. I learned so much over these last two weeks from 45 teachers that had come from 33 countries around the world and this experience is going to help shape my classroom for years to come.

Here's to CERN and all I learned while I was here!
